| What will disolve drywall mud in a drain pipe? Drywall tools were washed out in a bathroom sink and clogged the drain pipe. I was hoping there was a chemical that would safely dissolve the clog. The clog is in a wall pipe beyond my amature reach. Maintenance & Repairs - 6 Answers - 2007-05-19 05:34:17 Best Answer Snake it. All Answers Answer 1 Get a plumbing snake. 2007-05-19 05:37:52 Answer 2 It would take a lot of drywall compound to clog a pipe, unless it was the setting kind as opposed to the pre-mixed kind and you dumped a bunch in the drain. If it was the setting type, I don't know if anything you could use would dissolve the blockage. Try using a snake with a hook end to break up the blockage. Unless you dumped a bunch of the stuff down there, you may be looking at some other problem. Did you remove the P-trap to make sure that it wasn't clogged? You should always wipe most of the material from your tools before rinsing in a sink, it makes the job easier and prevents problems like this. 2007-05-19 05:45:31 Answer 3 Try using a wire coat hanger, if you can't rent an auger or sink snake. 2007-05-19 07:30:20 Answer 4 Snake it. 2007-05-19 10:03:21 Answer 5 Yes, snake it. If it doesn't work, throw in some caustic soda mixed with water or draino and snake again. 2007-05-19 15:48:29 Answer 6 If nothing Else has worked, put a little of the drywall compound in vinegar, and see if it bubbles. If so, the acetic acid in vinegar could dissolve the stuff in the pipes. 2007-05-19 21:59:55 |
